Share-the-Care

February 3, 2017 by Dina Markind

“I’m working harder and harder… busy but not satisfied.” This is part of what is being said not just by my client, but other physicians as well.  There are a number of factors, and one of the solutions is to delegate and share the care.

This does not mean dumping the ‘scut work’ but rather reassigning tasks so that your time is spent where it is most important, utilizing your skills and education. What tasks can be done by others in your office?  Through appropriately assigning tasks to assistants, coaches and nurses in your practice you are acknowledging these individuals skills as well.  Bringing them into the patient care can be a way to increase their satisfaction with their work too.  Each person I know wants to make a meaningful impact at work and in the lives of others. Utilizing the skills of others relieves you and enhances their engagement.

The AMA has done research on workplace redesign which supports these ideas.
