Mentoring and Important ICF credential updates

August 24, 2021 by Dina Markind

In Early 2022, the updated ICF Core Competencies will become the standard for professional coaching. This will lead to ICF credential updates. What does this mean for you?

If you want to take advantage of your earlier training, apply now for a new credential. The current Coach Knowledge Assessment (CKA) is available until the official switch to the updated competencies. If you are renewing at the same level, there is currently no requirement for you to take the updated CKA. If you wait until 2022 to apply for a new level of credential ACC, PCC or MCC, you will need to take the updated CKA. This is for those who have passed the CKA that is currently valid as well as for new applicants. The new exam will include approximately 200 scenario based multiple choice questions. The CKA is a closed book test. “The exam will be offered through a more secure delivery format that increases the credibility and integrity of the exam.” In the future it will be proctored in some way, possibly through testing centers.

Don’t wait, pursue your next credential now. Take advantage of your existing accepted Coach Knowledge Assessment prior to these ICF credential updates.

  • If you need mentor coach hours or Core Competency Coach Continuing Education Units (CCEUs) to complete your application, for more information check out what I’m offering with a colleague.  You’ll have 3 months to complete your mentorship prior to the end of the year.
  • Do you need to provide a recording? A mentor can direct you to aspects of coaching that need your focus.
  • Having trouble getting recordings? You might want to participate in Reciprocal Peer Coaching.
  • If you want to enhance your skills, learn from others and get personalized feedback on your coaching, consider joining a mentor coaching group. You’ll benefit whether or not it’s a requirement.

I am offering Group Mentor Coaching and Individual mentoring.  I look forward to hearing from you. Enhance your coaching skills and get ready to apply or renew prior to ICF credential updates for 2022 and.
