In the last several weeks I’ve written about change, renewal and forgiveness. These can all lead to joy, which bing defines as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying.”
We often make changes in our life so that we can experience more joy. On the day to day basis we go through our routines and can become complacent. Routines support us, but they also can cause us to get into ruts which lead to boredom and numbing of our senses; so when we make a change we may wake up and experience our lives again. Sometimes we see things in a new way which we appreciate, and at others we realize that “Wow, this (my schedule, my exercise routine, my social life etc.) isn’t working for me anymore.” From one change we may see a need for more changes which will renew us so that we can feel revitalized.
Along the way, we may question ourselves, “Why didn’t I see that before? What took me so long?” The sense of self-reproach is upon us. This is when the forgiveness of ourselves comes into play. When we accept that change is possible and we have not wasted our time until now, we will be more ready to forgive ourselves and truly begin on our path of renewal. With the addition of the forgiveness of others, our time of joy is close at hand.
