At the end of summer there is often a let down and a sense of weight descending upon us as the long days diminish and the intensity of work and expectations for being productive resume. Are you anticipating a lack of control, losing your sense of self-worth or distancing yourself from your patients? These feelings are signs of burnout among physicians and nurses.
Hope keeps your dreams alive; it is a powerful motivator which uplifts and helps you move toward your life of well-being. It is often easier to have hope when you are with others who are hopeful, and those who may have either overcome the issue you are dealing with, or are making progress. That’s part of the success of AA, weight watchers and other group programs.
To support you on your return to well-being, I’m offering Rx for Physician Happiness. This small mastermind group will encourage you to explore various positive psychology activities that have been found to increase happiness. Each participant will have a chance to discuss his/her experience and get ideas from other members of the group. In this way, participants are able to benefit from the wisdom of other members and the wisdom of the group as a whole. As you hear from others, your hope will increase.
