I’m so excited. In February, I’ll be starting an 11 month program to become certified in Positive Psychology. I decided to begin the reading now while I have a little time. The first book is Flourish by Martin Seligman. I’ve owned this book for a while but not read it until now. What fun I’m having!
I’m less than half way through the book, but I want to share two highlights for me personally and then part of his theory. Seligman identifies a theory of well-being that confirms the work that I do through Heart of Well-Being. He also talks about positive psychology as a calling, something which one is so drawn to that we’ll make it happen even if the path is not so easy. When I was in college there was no such thing as positive psychology or coaching; once I found out about these, I knew I had to take part.
A major part of Seligman’s theory is that well-being is made up of 5 major elements, PERMA.
- Positive Emotion
- Engagement, being in the flow
- Relationships which are positive
- Meaning
- Achievement
Over the next several months I’ll share some of my learning, the new and reinforced, with you.
What are you doing that will increase your well-being, PERMA, in your life?

P.S. by sharing my excitement and pleasure I get to savor it and reinforce this positive emotion
Good for you Dina! I’d love to hear more about your process at it unfolds.
