What interferes with your presence when you’re with your clients?
Here are some of the things that interfere for me and for others in maintaining presence:
- When it feels like the client is going on too long or in circles
- When I worry and have self-doubt regarding the topic, the person I’m coaching or my own intuitions and abilities
- When I haven’t let go of what came before and am thinking about what’s coming up
- The clock –
When I think of presence, I am reminded of the power of being able to dance in the moments. Being with the other person in an embodied way, listening to know when to follow and when to adjust in order to make the conversation more impactful. There is a flow to dancing when it is done well, so too when it comes to coaching conversations. Knowing, often without conscious effort, when to reflect, when to bring in some humor, what types of questions ask and much more. In our co created my conversation I also get to ask my coachee, what would be a good next question. It’s a pleasure to be with them not in my own head wondering what’s next.
Monica Leggett, PCC and I are offering a Group Mentor Coaching program where you can explore ways to become present before and during coaching sessions. There’s no need to grow alone. Participants in the program will join a nurturing environment in which you can gain perspective on your coaching and grow along with others. Being present with your client is freeing and allows you to dance in the moments of your conversation.
- Join me and Monica Leggett for Group Mentor Coaching. We’ll be facilitating a small group of coaches over 5 consecutive weeks on October 2 – October 30 on Wednesdays, 8:30 – 10 am Eastern. You’ll have an opportunity to coach others and get live feedback, as well as learn from others in the group. To find out more, message me directly.
