A key for well-being is taking in what is nourishing. Generally, when we think about this, food is the first thing that comes to mind, and what we eat probably has the most impact regarding our health. However, we also take in through our senses as well as through inhaling the air we breathe.
This time of year the light is often beautiful, especially as it reflects off the changing leaves. It is a good reminder of the impact of what we take in through our vision. What we see around us, in our homes and work spaces also has an impact on us. Our environment can renew our energy. We don’t have to wait to go to a museum or look through a photo album to be uplifted by what we see.
Take a look around where you are right now. Does what you see please you? What would you like to be different in this space? Would you like to remove an object? Do you need to take 5 to 15 minutes to tidy it up so that you are more relaxed and can enjoy this setting?
Notice the places where you spend time, whether it is an office, kitchen or desk. Become aware of what is pleasing here, what is jarring or upsetting. If there is something which you would be better off not looking at, remove it. If there is something you can add to increase your concentration or pleasure think about how you can add this in. Perhaps there is a photo of people you love which will remind you of why you want to work. Or perhaps bringing in some color, for example, a pop of red to add some liveliness to an otherwise dull space may bring you energy.
Look around and experiment with your space. Let us know what you discover.
